Unconventional Way to Relax & Energize

If you’re looking for a natural way to rejuvenate the body, mind, and spirit, I have a very simple practice that you can do on a regular basis.

I often find if I carve out time daily for self-care then there’s a cumulative effect.  I don’t get burnt out as much, I find myself less stressed and more peaceful.

The practice that I find so simple, yet powerful is barefoot walking on the Earth.  How to do this:

  1. Remove socks and shoes

  2. Find a grassy field or path without many rocks
  3. Let the body relax (I find it helpful to have a soft attention on the body/breath/surroundings)
  4. Walk slowly.  You will find that you’ll need to pay attention to where you’re stepping in most places!

Don't get discouraged if you don't "feel" anything.  The effects may be subtle. 

You can go for 5 minutes or as long as you like.

Why it works:

-There are many nerve endings on the feet.  Walking barefoot is like massaging the nervous system which is responsible for relaxation of the mind and body.

-Energetically the Earth is grounding.  When we walk barefoot we “plug-in” to this supportive, nourishing energy of the Earth.

-Nature is harmonizing in general.  I think of being in nature as a kind of Reiki (energy) that we have easy access to!  We just have to step out into the woods!
